WORLD CUP CANOE SLALOM TAKES TO THE WELSH WAVES WILL YOU BE THERE FOR THE SPLASH
Tickets are now on sale at www.canoecardiff2012.com for the 2012 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup, from the 8 -10 June, at Cardiff International White Water.
This is the first World Cup event awarded by the ICF (International Canoe Federation) to Cardiff International White Water which opened in Cardiff in March 2010.
Canoe Cardiff 2012 provides the opportunity for people to come and watch Canoe Slalom heroes, including athletes that will compete in the London 2012 Olympics Games. The athletes will be battling it out on the specially-built grandstand where they will ride a 300m adrenaline fuelled course, racing through up to 25 gates, in raging rapids.
With over 38 nations competing, the World Cup Series is the most prestigious event for Canoe Slalom professionals, and is one of the most exciting Canoe Slalom events in the calendar for paddlers and spectators alike.
UK Sport Chief Executive, Liz Nicholl, said:
“UK Sport is proud to be supporting the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup through our National Lottery supported Major Events Programme, and we are looking forward to what will be a fantastic event staged in partnership with the BCU, Canoe Wales and Welsh Government.
"Using the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a catalyst, UK Sport is committed to bringing more and more events to the UK, providing cities up and down the country with opportunities to benefit from staging major sporting events in order to establish the UK as a leading host of major international events.”
Welsh Government, said:
“The Welsh Government's Major Events Unit are pleased to be providing support for the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup 2012 which will take place at the magnificent Olympic standard Cardiff International White Water centre.
“The event is expected to attract 4 - 6,000 spectators and 600 visiting athletes and support staff which will generate a direct economic benefit to Cardiff and the surrounding areas but will also help raise the profile of canoeing in Wales and provide a stimulus to the canoeing development programme in growing sports participation and developing excellence.”
